Phantom Blade Zero: Release Date, Gameplay, PC Requirements and Editions
Phantom Blade Zero caught attention as soon as its first combat footage appeared. Swords barely seem to stay in their sheaths, while a dark fantasy world draws on Chinese martial arts and striking mechanical designs. With launch getting closer, it is a good time to look at what S-GAME has actually announced. You can also follow the release and platform details on the Phantom Blade Zero game page.
When Is Phantom Blade Zero Coming Out?
The official release date is October 29, 2026. Steam displays October 28 in some regions because the game unlocks at different local times. The original target was September 9, but S-GAME moved the release back by 50 days. The studio say it needed more time to improve character models, environments and the overall presentation.
The game is announced for PlayStation 5 and PC, with computer versions listed on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions has not been announced. Claims about a Sony exclusivity agreement and a possible Xbox launch window remain unconfirmed, so there is no reliable date for another console version. Readers comparing the wider schedule can browse upcoming games separately.
What Kind of Game Is It?
S-GAME describes Phantom Blade Zero as an action RPG inspired by wuxia, the tradition of stories about martial arts heroes. Here, that influence meets dark fantasy and unusual technology. The studio calls the resulting style “kungfupunk.”
The trailers may remind viewers of Sekiro and other demanding action games, but Phantom Blade Zero puts particular emphasis on speed, weapon changes and constant movement. Dodges, deflections and counterattacks are meant to flow together. Combat rely on timing as much as spectacle. Players who mainly want to follow the story can choose an easier setting, while harder modes include the challenging Sixty-Six Days option. Fans browsing similar combat styles can explore the site's hack and slash games.
The equipment selection looks substantial. S-GAME promises more than 30 primary weapons and 25 secondary tools called Phantom Edges. Some favor close combat, while others broaden your options. Weapons can be upgraded, and upgrade materials can be reclaimed when you decide to change your build. How well these systems fits together across a complete playthrough will only become clear after release.
Soul's Story and the Wulin World
The protagonist, Soul, is framed for the murder of his master. A severe injury to his heart leaves him with only 66 days to live. He spends that time pursuing the conspiracy that made him a hunted man. The journey takes place in Wulin, a beautiful but dangerous world filled with rivalries, formidable enemies and secrets.
The developers promise more than a sequence of fights. Players can explore locations, uncover hidden routes and take on side quests. Some encounters opens additional paths through the story. That should give players a reason to look beyond the main objective, although the depth of the narrative cannot be judged fairly before launch.
Donnie Yen's Role
Donnie Yen has worked as a creative consultant on Phantom Blade Zero since 2023, helping shape its martial arts action. He also provided facial and motion capture for Mó Yuan. His contribution goes beyond a celebrity appearance in a trailer. Official material available so far does not confirm that he voices the character.
PC System Requirements
Phantom Blade Zero runs on Unreal Engine 5. For 1080p at 30 frames per second on minimum settings with upscaling enabled, the listed hardware is an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, a GTX 1660 with 6 GB of video memory or an RX 5500 XT with 8 GB, and 16 GB of RAM.
The recommended setup targets 1440p at 60 frames per second, again with upscaling. It calls for an Intel Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 5600X, an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT, and 16 GB of RAM. An SSD is required. These performance targets assumes upscaling, so they should not be read as promises for the same resolution rendered without it. The PC games catalog can be useful when comparing other upcoming releases on the platform.
For ray tracing at 1080p and 60 frames per second, S-GAME recommends an RTX 5060. For path tracing at 4K and 60 frames per second, it recommends an RTX 5080. Both targets also rely on upscaling. The final installation size has not been announced, so estimates of 80 or 100 GB should not be treated as confirmed requirements.
Steam lists Denuvo among the game's third-party DRM technologies. Its presence is confirmed, but claims that it will reduce frame rates remains speculative. There are no dependable tests of the final release across a range of PCs yet.
Editions, Preorders and Pricing
Steam lists a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. On the US store page, they cost $59.99 and $69.99 respectively. Prices and purchase options may vary by region.
The standard edition contains the game. Deluxe adds the Wulin Legend and Blood-Steel Form outfits, a digital artbook and the soundtrack. Preordering grants early access to the Treasure Basin accessory and the Legacy outfit. Both items can also obtained through normal progression, so buying early is not necessary just to receive them.
If the extra outfits, music and artbook do not appeal to you, the standard edition is enough. Fixed prices in Russian rubles, specific payment methods in Russia and the availability of physical copies should be checked with the relevant store or seller before being presented as facts.
Is There Russian Language Support?
Steam lists Russian interface text and subtitles for Phantom Blade Zero, but not Russian voice acting. Full audio is listed for English and Simplified Chinese. Russian subtitles is therefore available for the story, while dialogue will be heard in another language.
Is Phantom Blade Zero Worth Waiting For?
The game looks especially appealing to players who enjoy rapid sword fights, wuxia stories and the unusual mix of martial arts with dark fantasy. It has a scheduled release date, published PC requirements and confirmed Russian text support. Donnie Yen's involvement in the combat presentation adds another reason to pay attention. PlayStation players can also browse the site's PlayStation 5 games while waiting for launch.
A final verdict has to wait. The trailers shows exciting combat, but they cannot yet tell us how stable the full game will be, whether its pace holds up or how satisfying the story feels over many hours. The finished release will show whether that strong first impression lasts.
